DK are intrigued about how to design the space for an aesthetic moment to happen, on the spot, for unexpected and random connexion, with the people, objects, and places where they go, in S P A C E.
This week, we set new photographs from a recent photowalk by members of Atelier S P A C E in HCMC alongside a fresh poem, 'Dimples,' which was a response to the image set herein. It's a great issue, this one. It's called S P A C E | Sài Gòn, 'Street Museums'.
‘Some people say my photos are sad, but I don’t think they get it,’ says Văn Trần, defiantly. ‘These are my photos. I love them. They tell my stories.’ Trần has teamed with DK since August 2020 to make new kinds of issues of our mini-mag, which include handmade art books. A fresh take on contemporary design meets old-world papers. More soon, in October.
Ilyas Kassam writes in a way that feels like you’re looking at one of his paintings. Of his artworks, Kassam says he tries to examine the idea of how space is not the negation of matter, but rather the energetic vivacity that gives matter its life.
This magazine is published every week by A. Spaice // DK, a boutique design studio founded in Seattle in 2004. Today DK does, mostly, a popup gallery and workshop-making exploration called Atelier S P A C E in HCMC. Design and discovery are our themes.
