Wildlife Conservation Society Country HR Manager Chukwuemeka Chukwu told me that he started his professional journey as a personal assistant to the CEO of what he said was the largest retail pharmaceutical chain in Nigeria, which clued him in to the ‘demanding nature of the private sector.’ That foundational role, however, ignited a passion for ‘organizational dynamics’ and set the stage for his subsequent career in HR. Transitioning to the public sector, he spent eight years as an HR Administrator. ‘I honed my skills in navigating bureaucratic structures and implementing HR practices on a broader scale... This period equipped me with a deep understanding of the intricacies, and complexities, of public-sector employment.’ Then he shifted to the non-profit world. Varied experiences across three distinct sectors in the Nigerian labor economy were transformative, giving him a wide lens to understand unique challenges and opportunities in each sector.
